Reasons Why You Can't Find a Job

Nine reasons why you can’t find a job

If you are searching for a job without luck for a while, this article will help answer the question that’s constantly running through your mind: “Why can’t I find a job?”

You don’t receive any phone calls or interviews…

If you send out resumes without hearing back from employers, there is something wrong with the job applications you send out. We can help you figure out what you are doing wrong.

  • You don’t write cover letters – The cover letter is an essential element of your job applications. Some employers insist on candidates writing cover letters. The next time, send a matching cover letter with your resume.
  • You don’t tailor your resume – A customized resume is essential to get a response from recruiters nowadays. A majority of employers use ATSs to filter job applications and those without a customized resume usually get no chance.
  • You don’t apply for enough jobs – Putting all your eggs in one basket is never a good idea. Be strategic with your job applications. Applying for a few jobs you are very confident you will get is great. But you should also apply for others in the meantime.
You never hear back from the employer after the first interview…

Not everyone gets a chance to face an interview with the company, so you have done something right to get this far. Let’s see how you can go further the next time.

  • You don’t explain terminations properly – Don’t raise red flags with the interviewer by glossing over your layoffs. Prepare a suitable explanation for why you were let go from a previous company.
  • You don’t do enough homework – You should never turn up at an interview without knowing what the company does. Find out all the information you can through the company website and social media.
  • You don’t practice your answers – While we don’t advise you to parrot out already-written scripts during your interview, you shouldn’t always plan to wing it on the day. Practicing answers to common interview questions will give you a lot of confidence.
You get through multiple interviews without a job offer…

If you have gotten this far and still failed to get a job offer, there are several reasons why employers may not be too keen on hiring you.

  • You are not giving tailored answers – When applying for competitive roles, you need to understand that employers are looking for something very specific. Tailor your interview answers in a way that ties back your qualifications to the job.
  • You are not asking good questions – Facing interviews is not all about answering their questions. It has a lot to do with asking good questions from your interviewer at the end as well. Not asking questions indicates that you are disinterested in the role.
  • You are not following up – Following up after your job interviews is a way of showing the employer that you are interested in the role. Make a habit of sending follow-up emails after job interviews to reiterate your interest.
