Build a growth mindset and upskill yourself so that AI cannot steal your job

Artificial intelligence in the workplace has become a much-pondered topic this year. Experts predict that with the advancement of AI, many jobs will be impacted by automation. Some even estimate that we will observe over 800 million jobs replaced by AI by the year 2030. In many industries, AI is being used to complete tasks that were once done by humans. This has the majority of professionals worried that AI will steal their jobs. However, AI is still not advanced enough to entirely replace the human aspect of things. What you can do to ensure that your job stays secure is upskill yourself so that AI cannot steal your job.

Identify the skills that are in demand

You should not sign up for every course you see online in your journey to upskill yourself. As a first step, you should identify the skills that are in demand in the job market. If you have no plans to change careers in the near future, you should select some skills that are in demand in your industry. Otherwise, you can choose to benefit from gaining new skills that are used across multiple disciplines. When you choose a new skill to develop, go for something that cannot be easily taught to AI, such as creativity, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and complex problem-solving.

Develop Your Soft Skills

AI is excellent for industries where it has to complete repetitive or routine tasks. However, it does not fare so well in roles where it has to interact with humans on an emotional level. One way you can stay ahead of AI is by nurturing your soft skills. Soft skills are not very easy to replicate in AI. Developing soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, and empathy will make you a valuable asset to your company. Also, focus on things such as collaborating with a team, resolving conflicts, and engaging with clients.

Learn to Code

Coding is a skill that will never be wasted in the modern job market. As more and more employers shift toward automation, there will be increased demand for employees who can talk to machines. Learn how to code and create software that you can use in the future to assist in an automated workplace. You don’t necessarily need to have a background in computer science to start learning programming. You can use resources such as Codecademy, Coursera, and Udemy to follow related online courses.

Focus on Creativity

Creativity and imagination are two of the most amazing human skills that AI has trouble replicating. AI is extremely good at performing repetitive tasks that it was taught how to do, but it lacks the ability to come up with creative and complex ideas. When you develop skills such as creativity and innovation, you can produce innovative solutions to problems. There are many things you can do to improve your creativity, such as learning a new language, taking an art class, or exploring a new hobby.

Participate in workshops and training programs

Workshops and training programs are great resources for employees who are interested in upskilling themselves. Your employer will be providing a number of training opportunities for you throughout your employment. Take full use of these opportunities to upskill yourself. Whether you work on diversity and inclusivity, team building exercises, or technical knowledge, training programs will help you upskill yourself in a short period of time. If you are interested in really improving yourself, you can participate in a medical boot camp or coding boot camp over a weekend to kickstart your journey.
